A four-day training programme on “Processing & Value Addition in Soybean: A Pathway to Enhanced Farm Income” was successfully organized at Punjab Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (PAMETI), located at the Punjab Agricultural University campus, Ludhiana, from February 24–27, 2026. Around 25 entrepreneurs from various districts of Punjab participated in the programme.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr.Ravneet Singh, Deputy Director (PHT), PAMETI, who outlined the key objectives of the initiative. He emphasized that the training aims to promote soybean processing and value addition to develop diversified, high-quality, and marketable products. The initiative also seeks to strengthen market linkages and encourage the establishment of small-scale soybean-based enterprises to generate sustainable livelihoods.
The training was formally inaugurated by Dr. K. B. Singh, Director, PAMETI, who highlighted the importance of minimizing post-harvest losses, improving product quality, and enhancing shelf life to increase farmers’ income. He further stressed the need to build the capacity of farmers and rural entrepreneurs in modern processing techniques, packaging, and quality control practices.
Technical sessions were conducted by experts from the Department of Food Science and Technology, PAU, Ludhiana. Dr.Arashdeep Singh delivered a lecture on the importance of soybean processing and value addition, along with its utilization in flour formulations. Dr.JaspreetKaur spoke on the nutritional significance of soybean and its role in promoting human health. Dr.GurkiratKaur discussed the utilization of soybean in bakery products.
The programme was largely practice-oriented to ensure better understanding among participants. In practical demonstrations, Dr.Arashdeep Singh showcased the preparation of flavoured soy milk and soy dahi. Dr. Hanuman Bobade demonstrated soy milk extraction and the use of soybean in pasta products. Dr.JaspreetKaur conducted hands-on training on the preparation of soy paneer and soy nuts.
To further enhance practical exposure, an educational visit was organized to Khalsa Soya Food, Mullanpur. During the visit, Mr.Gurpreet Singh, owner of the plant, explained the functioning of the soya processing unit and addressed the queries of the participants.
On the concluding day, PAMETI distributed mini grinder-cum-soy milk extractors to all participating farmers and entrepreneurs to encourage them to initiate small-scale soybean enterprises. The participants actively interacted with experts and expressed satisfaction with the programme, recommending the organization of more such practical and skill-oriented trainings in the future to enhance livelihood security and strengthen the farming community in Punjab.
