A training programme on Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture (NSA) was successfully conducted at the Punjab Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (PAMETI), PAU Campus, Ludhiana to strengthen the capacity of extension professionals and farmers in addressing nutrition challenges through agriculture.

The programme aimed to equip participants with knowledge and tools to promote nutrition-sensitive interventions at the grassroots level. It focused on integrating nutrition outcomes into agricultural practices, emphasizing the role of diversified farming systems, kitchen gardens, bio-fortified crops, and promotion of local and seasonal foods. Participants were sensitized to the links between agriculture, dietary diversity, and nutritional security, particularly for women, children, and vulnerable households.

Resource persons from PAU and GADVASU, Ludhiana talked about production systems and technologies that enhance food diversity and improve nutritional status of households and individuals. An exposure visit was also organized as an integral component of the training programme to provide participants with field-level insights. The visit covered nutritional gardens and vegetable farms at selected sites in Ludhiana and Moga districts. The field-based learning strengthened participants’ capacity to translate theoretical concepts into effective extension interventions.

The training witnessed active participation from farmers and extension functionaries, who engaged in discussions and interactive sessions. This initiative reinforced PAMETI’s commitment to capacity building in emerging areas of agriculture that contribute not only to productivity but also to improved health and nutritional well-being of farming communities.
